About the Book

Valenceo knew that his time had come. He turned to face the wall and then took a step forward knowing that to where he was going was hidden from sight. Shawnathin rounded the corner then and stood watching in horror as Valenceo stepped forward through the deceptive wall and then he was gone. Shawnathin yelled out, No! but it was too late, he was all alone now. It seemed to Shawnathin that the fake wall was put there to keep them out, and that was what he wanted to do, stay out! But there was an even louder voice crying out inside of him that said Go! Don’t stay here alone!

Shawnathin went to the wall confused as what to do and reached out to touch the wall, watching as his hand disappeared from the end of his arm and then a moment later he found himself falling, then sliding downwards, faster and faster into a dark abyss. His mind flashed back. Had he stepped too far forward? How had he fallen? Then he came to a sudden stop. There was a sound of deep rasping breath nearby. He strained his eyes. He could not see through the thick orange haze then suddenly Valenceo was standing there before him looking up to where they had fallen from, he opened his mouth as if he were about to speak when the sound of a dragons tail rattling, sliding, vibrating the air and the ground silenced him.

Through the filtered rays of sunlight that fell broken upon the great stalactites and stalagmites that spanned the great cavern room, he found the princess sitting upon a large rock at the far end. Then he saw the dragon queen’s body beginning to rise into the air. Had she seen them? He looked around. There was nowhere to run, no place to hide.
