About the Book

“Clyde’s Surprise” is a story about a flock of wild turkeys. I wrote this story because I feel that we need to recapture our children’s view of their outside world. It was also written to take young readers on a neat adventure, while gently teaching them how to resolve differences, make new friends and share the gift of nature that surrounds them. This idea has been composed with the best possible source of input for such a project--my own front yard! I live on 40 acres and I can freely watch these fascinating and sometimes comical creatures from my deck. As a fictional story “Clyde’s Surprise” engages a child’s imagination through whimsical story line and colorful artwork. As an educational piece the story brushes on the subtleties of the turkeys behavior. “Clyde’s Surprise” will take 7-10 year olds on a journey into a turkey’s habitat. Each character in “Clyde’s Surprise” will face regular “turkey” problems, and realize that it is possible to find the “hero” or “heroine” within themselves. Also, each character was given names from personal members of my family. They are as follows: Clyde and Nancy, Elmer and Viola were my grandparents. Sonny, my dad, Judd’s Tree Farm, my Uncle Judd, Pete, my father-in-law and Irv was my father-in-laws brother. And the dog, was our dog, Mossy.
