About the Book

Purpose of all teachings: spiritual, religions, yoga, and philosophy Is only One: Chitta Shuddhi. Chitta means consciousness, and Shuddhi means purity. Consciousness includes thinking and feelings. Hence, the purpose is to purify your thinking and your feelings, and thus, you become ripped or ready, you develop Childlike Innocence. The quest for “who am I” is subjective, not objective, so it cannot and need not be shown by another. No learning or knowledge of scriptures is necessary to know the Self. All knowledge is acquired only to be given up. Knowledge of the Self is being the Self. Abiding in the Self and Being the Self, and not seeing the Self, is Self-realization. This book is dedicated to: My mother, Satya Sheela Gandhi A mother’s love is the highest Mother India Wholesome beauty of Her ancient culture greatly enriched my life For thousands of years, many saints, such as Lord Buddha and Bhagavan Adi Shankara, have tried to explain scriptures in a layman’s language, which remained privilege of a few. So it is today. There are three reasons: 1. Unless common people can understand it, they won’t read it. 2. Unless they can read and understand it, they won’t use it. 3. Unless they use it, they will not derive the benefits that were intended. Not only languages were a problem, scriptures were very complex with many concepts that did not appear to have any practical use in a day-to-day living. So people did not read much, nor did they use it much. So it is today. Yet what was true then is still true today. There is nothing new. It is the very same Truth being explained again and again so common people can use it in their daily lives. It is for this purpose these three books—“The Basics,” “The Seeker,” and “Transformation”—have been written and titled as Spiritual Man. The goal of all divine personalities was the same—to uplift the consciousness of the masses, the common people. Only then there can be hope for peace and righteousness in this world. In today’s age of information, it is possible to reach a larger and international group of people, which was not true before. Let me illustrate the point with the use of two simple words, open mind and common sense. When one has an open mind and common sense, he is called intelligent. When mind becomes very open with lots of common sense, one is considered genius. While one who has totally an open mind and unlimited common sense, he becomes super genius. All divine personalities—such as Lord Krishna, Lord Buddha, and Lord Jesus—were super genius. What they taught was a very deep level of common sense. If you become evil, it is going to make you miserable sooner or later. If you are righteous, it is going to make you happy. We all want to be happy, don’t we? Whether or not there is heaven or hell, what was implied is happiness or misery. Go try it, and you will learn from your experiences that it is true. The first book, “The Basics,” is a very selective and precise treatment of the original teachings. It covers essence, clarification, and explanations intended for common people and for those who wish to become spiritual. Yet no matter how much is explained, teachings will not become clear unless one takes the practical steps. The first three chapters cover the basic principles. The fourth chapter describes a spiritual seeker. While the next two chapters are practical guides, self-help, and preparation for the spiritual journey. Chapter 7 is about the process of Self-enquiry, and the last chapter describes the spiritual man. Every human life is in essence a spiritual journey. The sooner we grasp the principles, the sooner we will find happiness and love that we seek. It is not easy for a human life can be very complex. May you find inspiration from these books to begin your spiritual journey. If there are mistakes or limitations, those are that of the author alone and not that of

About the Author

Chander Mohan Gandhi At about age fifteen, Sri Ananda Mayee Ma became his first Love. He still carries a pocket-size Gita given by her. It wasn’t until more than a quarter century later when one day, in the midst of severe crises, he woke up. Then the search began with burning desire in his heart. Swami Joytir Maya Nandji, a disciple of Swami Sivanandji of Divine Life Society, became his second Guru. As intensity and concentration reached heights, Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi became his “Guru.” Today, having renounced all, he abides in the Self and walks Alone—like an ordinary man. He has been called All-love, Jnani(Wise), and has penetrating eyes that can see through all. He has been addressed as Swami, as Mahatma, and he is adored for his teachings and explanations of scriptures. In 1997, he went to India for his spiritual pilgrimage and received blessings of many saints before beginning his new life as a Spiritual Man. In 1970, he came to United States, did his second masters in engineering, and worked mostly in that field. Although leading a life of a householder, he was able to reach the spiritual heights. He helped and inspired many for reaching their potentials.
