About the Book

Midlife seems to trigger reflection and meditation for most people, often encompassing many of the same emotions and responses, just as one sun shining on multiple prisms reflects similar hues. And all of our stories—our rainbows if you will—are sprinkled with some combination of joy, sadness, wonder, adventure, and lessons to be learned, especially after having lived more than a few years.

Meditations on Midlife… from the Sunroom is a rainbow of essays, written to capture and share some of the reflections of Sydney Smith. These stories talk to some of the themes common to all of our lives: adventure, family, grief and comfort, praise, relaxation, activity, music, fun, parenting, and listening. Sydney invites you to share some of her journey and welcomes you to her sunroom.

About the Author

Sydney Smith is a consultant and technical writer by profession. Her career in recent years has focused on training and performance support. She has also written a compilation of poems in A Small Part of Me, as well as co-authored (with Karen McDaniel and Fernando Varisco) a mystery novella entitled An Ugly Place to Die. Smith and her teenage son spend a lot of their time taking care of their old farmhouse in Maryland, but they also enjoy traveling throughout the United States. One of her midlife discoveries, motorcycling, has become a favorite pastime, in addition to reading, writing, and dancing. As she reflects on her own life, Smith also enjoys getting to know others by listening to their stories, while watching and waiting for the gift of a double rainbow.
