If the last poem you read in this book didn’t paint enough of a vivid image of my background, I want to take this moment to elaborate. I was born in 1964, number four out of five boys. We were a financially challenged family, to say the least. Everything I wore growing up was a “hand me down”. You can safely say that I was the runt of the litter. I was picked on a lot growing up, to the point that I wanted to end this life. Until I discovered drugs and alcohol, it was there, with that bottle that I found myself, and my friends. I met a cool girl in high school. She became my sweet heart. Then she broke my sweet heart. I became very bitter. I went on a mission. Drinking, drugging, driving and treating women down right nasty. I was out to break every girl’s heart. Then came the DUI. It made me stop and think. It was my fault she broke my heart. I had taken her for granted. I cleaned up my act. I now have a beautiful wife, and a musical prodigy for a son. And I now wear “hand me ups”, because my son sprouted up, taller than me. And now it is my government that is breaking my heart. They’ve ruined this country I love. They lie, they cheat, they kill. And they are doing it all still. So I have once again found a reason to be bitter and ashamed. And that was the impetus for writing this book. I’d like to take this moment, to publicly show my gratitude to a gentleman who helped me every step of the way. Without his help, this book would’ve never materialized. So props are going out to my dear friend Jimmy Jeffreys.
