About the Author
My name is Bemardene (Miss Bernie) Van Epps. I was born in Canandaigua, NY on May 12, 1956. My father, Jean Van Epps, was a sergeant in the Army and my mother, Jeannette (Bernard) Van Epps, was a stay at home mom. I have a sister, Karla, and a brother, Butch. I have several nieces and nephews, as well as, grand nieces and grand nephews. I never married and have no children of my own, but I have taught so many children to dance that I feel they are all my children. I am the owner and Artistic Director of the Canandaigua Dance Studio. I started this business in 1981 and it is still going strong. The success of my studio comes from my continuing education in dance. I am a member of Dance Masters of America, Inc., where I have been certified in the DMA Teachers Training School (I still continue to study every summer). I also have a BA in dance education from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY I have two Associates Degrees in Science and Theater from the Finger Lakes Community College, Canandaigua, NY. “Anna’s Adventure” came about when I was at Hobart and William Smith Colleges taking an anatomy class for dancers and athletes. Writing a story about the 206 bones of the human skeleton would help me with my anatomy test. My professor read my story and suggested that I publish it. So now I can add “author” to my many statuses.
