About the Book

One day, all the kids in the neighborhood were playing kickball in the street, right in front of Paul’s house, a very special little boy. But Paul, although a very smart kid, had no friends. His parents would not let him play with the other kids because they thought that playing would distract Paul from his studies. They wanted Paul to be more like them, “very smart.” Paul’s dad was a scientist; his mom, a doctor. Neither parent believed in God. Paul did. Some days, Paul would look out his window and watch the other kids play. He wished, more than anything, that he was out there playing with them. Paul would laugh when they did and say “alright” when they would score a run. Paul found himself to be very lonely and wanted a break from his studies. So, the next afternoon, when Paul got home from school, he asked his mother, “Mom, can I go outside and play before I have to study?” His mother looked at him with disappointment and said, “Play! What do you mean play? You know you have to study; and besides, you have no one to play with.” “That’s just it, mother. Neither you nor dad let me do anything but study. And I’m tired of studying. I need to play! I need to make some friends.” “No!” Paul’s mother said.” But you can ask your father when he gets home.
