In “STORMY WAS MY LIFE”, Millie Wierer’s life story begins with the tumultuous years of Word War I, leading into the creation of the new state of Czechoslovakia. The book follows her experiences during the Nazi occupation, the Russian invasion of 1945 and her family’s escape, to become stateless refugees in Germany, and fi nally, coming to the United States. Her story relives the historical events, balancing these events with her personal struggle to maintain control of her life, be a wife and mother and evolve from her experiences. In her words, “I was wretched, however I was determined to survive all the suff ering, pain and humiliation, and indeed, I did.” This, in her own words, is, Millie’s story.

About the Author

About The Author: Millie Wierer Millie Wierer was born in 1909 in Bohemia, Austro-Hungary. Her early childhood was interrupted by WW I, and this, perhaps foretold the tumultuous years that would be her life to follow. Educated at the Charles University in Prague, she studied languages and for her law degree, receiving finally her LLD in Germany after WW2. Millie spoke 6 languages fluently: Czech, German, Polish, French, Italian and later, English. Millie’s literary contributions were primarily articles and essays of historical, political and economic nature, published in Munich, Vienna and later, the U.S.A. During the Post War Soviet era, she penned studies of living conditions in occupied Czechoslovakia for Collegium Carolinum in Munich, the German government and Radio Free Europe. Millie also published children’s stories in her later years in the United States. Millie Wierer passed away at 80 in November 1989, on the day that Czechoslovakia obtained freedom.
