About the Book
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Farm, written by Sharon Wistisen and illustrated by Kathy Hamann, is a collection of vignettes about farm family living in Southeastern Idaho. In total, the essays tell the story, sometimes warm and thoughtful, often humorous, of a third-generation farmer-rancher who marries a California city girl. It is filled with dialogue depicting the trials and joys of working side by side with their five children – often being raised by them. It is homespun humor, insider’s wisdom, and reflections of yesteryear.
About the Author
Sharon Wistisen was born and raised in San Jose, California. She and her farmer-rancher husband, Rulon Wistisen, live on a third-generation farm in Bancroft, Idaho. They are the parents of two sons and three daughters and the grandparents of fourteen “well above average” grandchildren. For three years, she worked out of her home as correspondent and columnist for four Southeastern Idaho newspapers. After her children were raised, she attended Idaho State University, graduating with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English and later obtained a secondary teaching credential. She taught English, Speech, and Literature at ISU for eleven years and worked for six years as Title I Director and instructor at North Gem Schools.
