About the Author

Shadd’s love of creative writing started as a young adult when one of his assignments in high school English was to write a poem after studying the different forms. His instructors in both high school and college felt he had a natural ability as a writer and tried to steer him in the direction of an English Major, but he chose to go down a different path. His next book, Soldiers, addresses his military service and willingness to carry on a family tradition. Many of his poems are inspired by events in his life. For him, the creative writing process expresses not only intimate feelings and emotions, but in many ways, has been a form of therapy. Shadd grew up in California, but after several years living abroad, settled in Washington State where he is currently residing with his wife and daughters.
