About the Book
“One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been.” —Will Rogers JIM, JAM, JIMMY FROM JAMESTOWN A stirring narrative of an individual’s coming-of-age, this autobiography traces the life and times of James Richard Culver.
About the Author
A child of the depression, Jim Culver is born on a small farm near Lansing, Michigan. As he grows into manhood, his experiences prepare him for a colorful career, first in television and film, followed by twenty-five years of service in the lottery industry. Culver eventually becomes a leading authority on lottery marketing. Starting with the Michigan Lottery, where he serves as its marketing director and, for a time, its commissioner, Culver moves on to become a consultant, assisting some of the world’s biggest lotteries. His intriguing tale of lottery life offers a glimpse of an inner sanctum seldom seen by outsiders. Nothing is sacred as he relates some of the promotional gaffes and miscues of lottery management. While his lottery experiences are fascinating, they are mere stepping-stones through a colorful life’s journey. Culver’s other adventures are equally compelling, and they make for delightful reading. Jim Culver retired from the lottery industry in 1998. He resides in Vero Beach, Florida, with his wife, Suzanne.
