About the Author

WALT WITCOVER has been a teacher of acting for over fi fty years—fi rst at the HB Studio, for twentyfive years, and then at SUNY Purchase and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, as well as in private classes in Baltimore and in New York City, where he maintains his Witcover Acting Studio. A student of Herbert Berghof and Lee Strasberg, his modern staging of Verdi’s La Traviata at the Actors Studio, from 1965 until 1969, led to his forming Masterworks Laboratory Theatre, which for over forty years has explored and developed fresh approaches to performing and stagings of lyric classics.
