Patches and Katie: A Rescue Story

About the Book
I adopted Patches, a young Border Collie Mix, on July 2nd, 1993. Intelligent, fun-loving and very energetic, daily runs, walks and long squirrel chases, became our daily routine. When it came time to find Patches a companion, we found an advertisement for Australian Shepherd Rescue. Since Aussies are also herding dogs, we thought it might be a good match. We contacted the Rescue and tried to adopt a deaf puppy but she was adopted before we could meet her. A few weeks later, they called us, about Katie. Katie was 4 months old and had limited sight, but could hear. Katie did not care that she could not see well, only that sometimes, she would be hurt by other dogs. Patches accepted Katie and taught her to use her other senses. Katie began our love for Australian Shepherds. Smart, funny and highly trainable, the Aussie motto is that “their owners will never again, be alone.” We hope you enjoy this story, the first of many lessons they have taught us.
