About the Book

Within the Lascaux caves near Monignac, France, some of mans earliest works of artistic expression exist. Paintings on cave walls that sought to illustrate his world. Often depicting life‛s daily experiences and the fears of a hostile world he was a part of and yet apart from. While early cave works were possibly viewed (by gathered tribal members) as mysterious truths illustrated for a shared experience, I would like to believe that within those works there must have been an element of injected humor. If not pictorially, then in perhaps the artists commentary while painting or sharing the art in review. Somehow I envision an early cave artist drawing out his experiences and telling onlookers of his harrowing escape from danger and laughing at his chance survival. For myself, reviewing early works of art, regardless of their place in history, allows for an artistic connection. Reviewing daily news also allows for a connection to life. And so -the cartoonz illustrated in this book have, in a sense, become my”cave drawings.” Simple renderings of our world. A depiction of daily life around us. Some of the cartoonz are drawn from fi rst hand experiences or shared observations. Other cartoonz are created from news media stories or world situations. In any event, I attempt to fi nd something “humorous” in one and all. Something we can share with one another in picture and story. For the very idea of fearing a hostile world just beyond the drawing table can be of no positive value to any of us. About the Author

jonathan-james is an artist who lives in the south with his loving wife LiLi and their two cats. He has contributed art and design work used by The Walt Disney Co., The Coca-Cola Co., Tiffany and Co., Frontier Village Amusement Park, Six Flags Over Georgia, ABC and NBC TV affi liate stations and many more. On any given day he can be found in his studio painting, drafting, sculpting and creating. Simply put, he is known to create freely outside restrictive norms and in as much works under the added title of jonnie-jamz...outside the box.
