A young raccoon accompanies his mother for the first time on her nightly search for food and finds himself alone, frightened and hungry as his mother has unfortunately become another traffic statistic. John McDermott, a burly but empathetic employee of the Department of Highways and Transportation, rescues the orphaned raccoon. His survival is a concern. McDermott’s child, Sam becomes involved as she tenderly cares for the raccoon. It does not bode well for the kit. Will he live or die? The hearts of all animal lovers will be touched by the fate of the baby raccoon.
About the Author
Anna Pinette, a Canadian author of children’s books, lives in Manitoba with her husband of forty-one years. A teacher by profession, she has specialized in the primary grades and in Special Education within the Turtle River School Division. She is the grandmother of four. Her published works include: Petunia, the Naughty, Little Lamb and Elmer, The Hot Dog Loving Rooster. Her latest publication is Bubble, Bubble, Pop! - Stories for Children of All Ages. Drawing from her life experiences, Anna writes from the perspective of a person born and raised in the country. Her writings reflect the close family ties that she values.
