About the Author

I am an ESE (Exceptional Student Education) teacher who has over 9 years of experience working with autistic children of all ages. Lesson Planning is especially challenging for children whose academic level and grade level don't pair up. Most of my students are moderate to profoundly autistic and teaching nonverbal, visual thinkers is always tricky business. I wanted to create a book that was engaging and educational. Rhythm and rhyme is especially effective because autistic children are musically inclined. Furthermore, all children respond to rhyme and melody. When a book is rhythmic, it gives the reader the opportunity to play with voice tone and deliver an arrangement of patterns and sounds. This book also contains highly imaginative, vivid images. These particular images have been tailored to give children a reason to compare concepts. Once again, giving them the opportunity to get a "sense" of the world around them. Additionally, I wanted an idea that was basic enough for low proficiency readers but rich enough to entice an older, more elusive child. Lastly, the book content is based on my very own experience as a child. I looked to the moon on our night time road trips and secretly hoped it was mine to keep.
