About the Book

Faith Burning With Hope is a personal document of a lover of the Catholic Church, painfully aware of how the message of Jesus is lost or distorted in twenty-first-century America. Starting with the teachings of Jesus, supplemented with the wisdom of Catholic theologians, the author envisions a church proclaiming forgiveness, acceptance, compassion, and love to a world permeated by a culture of fear and unaware that “grace is everywhere.” The author suggests that this basic Jesus-message contains avenues for moving beyond scandals and provides a new perspective for looking at controversial issues.

About the Author

Tom Mahan, PhD, a retired graduate dean and psychology professor, after seven years in the seminary, turned to the academic world, where he spent thirty-five years. The religious world is his lifelong interest. He served as psychological consultant to two bishops, as diocesan director of faith formation or as school superintendent, and as director of synod implementation or diocesan planning. Blessed Pope John Paul II named him knight commander in the Order of St. Gregory the Great. The Theological College of Catholic University honored him as the second recipient of the Cardinal Bernardin Medal; the Citadel awarded him an honorary doctor of humanities degree.
