About the Author

I am Michael Angel Acevedo Cortazar, a young Colombian-American author from Amarillo, Texas. I enjoy reading and absolutely love writing. I also love God and put my faith in him. I was ten years old in 2010, when I wrote Steam Shack: Tales of the MechBand. I was born in Laguna Hills, California. I live with my mother Elizabeth and my dog, Asher. My three older siblings live in California with my father, Francisco. I began writing in 2007 on a school library day. A Librarian told the class about the Caldecott Medal and it interested me. I began writing a book to see if I could someday earn it, but when I wrote I found out that the pencil had power. It soon became my hobby and I didn’t care as much for the award; I just wanted to write, write, write!
