About the Book

This is a compelling story about how a large group of diverse steel companies from around the world came together to achieve major technological breakthroughs in development of Advanced High Strength Steels and lightweight automotive design. Although the technical achievements were of keen interest to global automakers, this is also a fascinating story about the issues concerning cultural, language, and differing commercial interests that had to be overcome and adapted in order to create an unprecedented global consortium of competing companies and different personalities.  

About the Author

Ed Opbroek was Director of WorldAutoSteel – a unit of the World Steel Association – and former Director of the ULSAB (UltraLight Steel Auto Body) and ULSAB-AVC (Advanced Vehicle Concepts) series of projects by a global consortium of leading steel producers from 20 countries around the world. Mr. Opbroek’s career includes extensive experience in product development, application engineering, steel production operations management, and marketing/sales with AK Steel Corporation and Armco Steel in the fields of construction and automotive products. He received a BS Degree in Civil Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Missouri.
