About the Book
In these poems Perien Gray captures the wonder, sorrow and humor of life, hers and ours. Her poetic explorations take us on tender, deep and occasionally lighthearted journeys to places in the natural and unnatural worlds we never would have thought to go. Along the way we meet Jehovah napping as incoming prayers pile up beside his fax machine, eavesdrop at the Garden of Eden, and celebrate one particularly cherished later-life romantic relationship. Creatures from dogs to katydids and gods to lovers populate these pages. By turns philosophical, passionate, wise, wry, despairing and jubilant, this book reflects the poet’s attempt to comprehend and record the meandering course of one woman’s life from childhood to old age.
About the Author
Perien Gray has been at times a mother, three times a wife, a potter, counselor, cellist and pianist, reader, mourner, rejoicer, and a constant ponderer. She lives in Asheville, NC with her dog Allegra, sustained by many close friends, by the challenges of writing poetry, aging and Parkinson’s disease, and by ever-mutating insights into the nature of life. She assures us that everything in thisbook is at least 95% true, allowing less than 5% for poetic license and because the poem insisted on having its way.
