About the Book

The author depicts life in Bosnia (first as part of Yugoslavia then as part of the independent state/of Croatia), service in the Croatian Navy, training on the Sailing Ship Horst Wessel (now in the U.S. renamed Eagle), life in Tito’s Yugoslavia and, in 1949, escape to Italy across the Adriatic Sea. Year in Italy, ending with emigration to Australia.  After 8 years  there, arrival in Berkeley, CA to pursue graduate studies in nuclear engineering, marriage to Barbara (from Kansas) and start of a family.  Follows work for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA, then in Maryland for the US Atomic Energy Commission.  Includes description of many local and overseas trips.
