About the Author

John C. Bird is a retired Colonel from the Army. He has served 37 years in the Marine Corps and the Army. He is well traveled in the Far East and Middle East. He has eight articles in publication on management topics. He published these articles when he became a civilian, where he founded and operated the first freestanding Geriatric-Psychiatric hospital in California, created a medical-psychiatric transportation company services mainly the VA Hospital, Palo Alto, CA. He also started and operated a medical leasing company for clinics and specialty hospices in California. He provided the staff and human resources for the different facilities. Upon total retirement, COL Bird started to walk his dogs with a college professor. They talked about their military experiences. His stories were short stories and the profession wanted COL Bird to publish a book. Placing these short stories into a book, COL Bird created a non-fiction story and integrated these stories within the book. Some stories are accurate and some he has used poetic license on. But the basic story in the book in non-fiction. The theme of the A Marine – A Soldier places the main character in the placed of The Secretary of Defense and how HE (Bird) would have conducted the war. All of the characters in A Marine – A Soldier are fictional characters. And in no way represents the true parties who held the positions even though it is not hard to figure out the characters real name and position in government.
