About the Author

Don Kovarik is a lifelong resident of Minnesota. Born in St. Paul, MN., he was educated in parochial schools and the University of Minnesota and realized a lifelong dream when he graduated from Metropolitan State University in 1975 with a degree in Human Services.

Married to Barbara Louise Meier and with three grown children he worked for a large, world-wide manufacturing corporation for over 38 years and left in 1996 to take a job in a small advertising agency in St. Paul until he retired in 2011. Don began writing seriously after graduating from college in 1975. He took Patricia Hample's class in Memoir writing at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis which lead to many more classes in writing and poetry over the years.

He also formed a group of writers who met each week to share and critique their work with each other. When not writing, he enjoys Ballroom Dance and participates in various formations, showcases and production numbers as well as competitions. He practices Peter Elbow's idea of free-writing for at least ten minutes a day without editorial interference and then later editing and rewriting.

Through the Eyes of a Poet is his first book of poetry.

Barbara Louise Kovarik for over forty years has been a Radiologic Technologist at United Hospital in St. Paul. She also has been painting in oil and watercolor ever since high school and is currently Artist in Residence at 1200 Edgcumbe Rd., St. Paul, MN., where she has many pieces of her art on display.
