About the Book

Sydney, an extraordinary Australian Shepherd, shares her life experiences with young readers in a series of exciting books written from Sydney’s point of view. She’s loving, fearless, a great friend, and a bit of a drama queen at times. Sydney learns many lessons which she passes on to the children who will read her books and enjoy the many pictures of Sydney’s escapades. In Sydney Learns How to Swim, Sydney is playing catch by a lake with her Dad when she gets hot. To cool off, she takes one of her favorite toys, Ducky, into the water. Ducky floats out into water that is over Sydney’s head. Afraid to swim out to retrieve Ducky, Sydney loses him forever. Sydney wants to learn how to swim; but for her to succeed, she must conquer her fear of deep water. To help her, Dad buys Sydney a life preserver jacket and starts teaching her how to swim. Through the pictures, readers get to watch as Sydney conquers her fear of deep water and learns to swim. She learns that she can do many things if she keeps trying, has faith in herself, and trusts those who love her.

About the Author

Beau Heidy has been a well-respected personal trainer in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area for over nineteen years. He adopted Sydney in 2002 when she was ten months old, and from that day, Sydney was his constant companion. Every work day for over ten years Sydney followed Beau out the front door to accompany him to the homes of the clients he trained. Sadly, Sydney passed away in February 2012, but her spirit lives on in Beau's series of books. She will not be forgotten. Beau lives in Moscow, Ohio, a small rural town southeast of Cincinnati along the Ohio River. He lives with his wife, Jane, who has worked with him on his books. They have two dogs and five outside cats.
