About the Book

BOOK SUMMARY THE WOODCARVER’S CLOCK One day a woodcarver, searching for wood to carve, comes upon a splendid forest few had ever seen. He revels in the beautiful scene of colorful flowers and their sweet scent, but is dismayed by the ear-splitting noise made by the birds. To end their terrible racket, he offers them a plan that would recognize and satisfy each of them. The birds accept the plan, the noise ends and the forest becomes a truly lovely place. The woodcarver goes home happily, and inspired by the birds, builds a clock featuring them. Enchanting illustrations, meticulously articulated in vibrant colors, accompany this delightful story. Children will surely love this book. Reading level: 2nd grade +

About the Author

AUTHOR’S BIOGRAPHY Marie Yamashita is a 91 year old great grandmother and widow who lives in Molokai, Hawaii. Before retirement, she was a classroom teacher and a high school librarian, who served in the schools of Molokai for 32 years. She has written two children’s stories as legacies for her four great grandchildren---the oldest is seven---with the hope that in reading them in later years, they will have something tangible to connect them to the little old lady they used to call G. G. (great grandma).
