About the Book

My name is Epoh, and I have a new home! My old home is very far from here. My family and I had to leave. We finally found a place to call home in America. I now live in a big city named New York. This is the story of how New York became my new home. My old home and my new home are very different. My old home had big mountains with lots of animals. When I was younger, we had a lake, many trees, and flowers. As I got older, my old home started to change. We were not able to drink from the lake anymore because the water became polluted with toxic chemicals. The trees were cut, and the animals began to disappear.

About the Author

Karina Medina is a published author and guidance counselor. Following the release of her first book Old Home New Home in early 2013 she received positive reviews. Already known for her work with refugee youth with the International Rescue Committee her duties have been expanded since the book’s release. Old Home New Home is being utilized by refugee academies in both New York and California. She also has been asked to conduct workshops based on her book at the Museum of Tolerance in New York and her book is on display at Los Angeles’ own Museum of Tolerance. Inspired by the positive feedback from her first book Karina has decided to create a new series of children’s books that aim to help the reader learn about new topics and skills in a fun and child friendly way. Ever the dog lover, Karina has enlisted her beloved pug Boonie to be the main character in her new series of children’s books.
