There are 4 stories in the book and they are fairy Tale like’

Story one,     Is about a cat and a dog who both want to sleep on the mat in front of the fireplace. The dog, Fidelio, goes to the market to get his own mat.

a little mouse in a whole in a plinth watches the two fighting about the mat and then has to be careful as the cat wants to catch the mouse.

Story two:    A donkey and a frog lived in a farmer’s paddock. Then one day the donkey, who’s name was Donald, told him,that maybe one day a beautiful princess could walk in and demanding a kiss that would turn him into a prince. And it so happened, a far removed relative of the farmer, princess Amelia from Norway caught the frog and tried to get him to kiss her. But on a closer look, Freddie the frog got away after seeing all her wrinkles, her moustache and warts on her face, and hid in the pool behind some waterlilies  

Story three:

A princess who has to marry an ugly prince, but a handy man who works in the castle sometimes, was in love with the princess. He goes to a witch to try and get her to make a potion to turn him into a mouse so he can get into the castle.He hides under her bed while she makes a dress out of a bedspread. And using the scarf of her Muslim nannie, they escape and the handyman turns into a wealthy prince.

Story 4     The Rooster and the Fox.        The rooster lived in a paddock with his chickens and a dog called Rex. Their place was right next to the forest where Reinard the fox lived.

The fox was always thinking what a good meal the rooster would make. He’d invited him often, but today he put together a smorgasbord for the rooster with a red drink in  an old bottle he’d found. The rooster, throwing caution to the wind, thinking he could fly away, tried to drink the red drink in the bottle, but got caught. Now all animals were making so much noise, the farmer came out with a shotgun and saved the rooster.

 


About the Author

Born in the Netherlands, Alida lives on the Central Coast, near Newcastle, Australia. Her love of writing has been a lifelong pursuit leading her to become a novelist ten years ago. Alida emigrated to Australia in 1959 with her husband and two children where adventure beckoned and the family tried opal digging in Coober Pedy and Lightning Ridge. A move to midwestern New South Wales town of Orange where her third child was born and with her husband started a horse stud, aptly named Running Hoofs, leading to success in local and metropolitan racecourses.
