About the Author

About the Author I grew up about ten miles from Fontana Dam, North Carolina in the Great Smokey Mountains. My Mother and Father could not read or write and they worked hard and lived off the land. I have two sisters and two brothers. My brothers and sisters had moved away from home by the time I was about eight years old. I am the youngest in the family. My dad only worked on a public job about six weeks in his whole life and my Mother never worked on a public job. I wore hand-me-down clothes in my younger days until I got out of school. I can say one thing though, I have never went hungry in my whole life. I could have gotten free lunches at school but my dad was too proud to sign up for them. He did not draw one check of un-employment in his whole life that I know of. I went to school and received a High School Diploma, but I did not deserve it. At this time and age, I have only about a second grade education. At about the age of twenty-two, I was told by a person that I would never be able to write a poem or song, but I have news for them. It’s not in education, it’s not what’s in your head, it’s what’s in your heart. My strength comes from what’s in my heart and that is Jesus Christ. Through him I can do all things.
