About the Book
In At the 11th Hour, Dr. Primus Igboaka displays his deep insider knowledge and love of his home country Nigeria through focusing on the cancelled Nigeria’s Miss World Pageant 2002 to draw attention to the country’s mirage of religious, political, social, cultural and economic problems. Igboaka has written a must read book for all to appreciate Nigeria problems as it adjusts from a traditional to modern society. - Louisa Ha, Professor and Chair, Department of Telecommunications, Bowling Green State University; associate editor, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly. “Religion does not create problems; what creates problem is the political exploitation of religion. Many people want to exploit religion to cause division.” - J.F. Ade-Ajayi, Professor Emeritus, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. ____________________________________________________ “About 200 people were slaughtered in Nigeria following rioting by Islamic fundamentalists to stop Miss World Pageant from taking place in the country in 2002. Yet, Nigeria is a secular state where the ratio of Christians to Muslims population of 170 million people is 53/47. However, in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country with population of more than 260 million people, following days of rioting by Muslims’ protesting against Indonesia’s hosting of Miss World pageant in 2013, there was no single person killed or life lost as a result of the rioting; rather the venue of the pageant was relocated by the Indonesian government to a predominantly Hindu holiday island resort of Bali instead of Sentul, near the capital city of Jakarta, Indonesia. The crucial question is why is the relationships of Muslims and Christians in Nigeria different from other countries with largely mixed Muslim population such as Djibouti, Gambia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Indonesia, Philippines or Malaysia?” The answers may surprise you.
