About the Book

Never before has the Earth, centuries in its development, been within seconds of total annihilation. Captain Alexi Romanoff, a Slovanian astronaut and inventor of a telescope that can x-ray the insides of any heavenly body focused within its sight, discovers a geological phenomenon beneath the earth’s surface. They are tunnels. They travel all over the globe, connecting the vast expanses of the earth. If used in good faith, they could potentially aid humankind in incalculable ways. If manipulated with evil intent, they could be twisted into a weapon of mass destruction. Josef Janos possesses that very evil intent. As a child, he watched as his parents were viciously slaughtered during the bloody Slovanian revolution. In exile, he has anxiously awaited the opportunity to unleash his revenge. Accompanied by six other deposed tyrants, and with access to enough gold to buy anyone's ethics, Josef Janos is about to have his day.

About the Author

With forty years of creative experience as an interior designer, author Maurice Shalmi has transformed his imaginative visions to craft an enthralling story line for Tunnels, an exciting novel of intrigue and suspense. Combining scientific and geographic research with a conspiracy intent upon controlling the world at the expense of human life, the insightful story gives the reader a realistic glimpse of what could potentially happen should weapons of mass destruction fall into the wrong hands. Maurice Shalmi was born and raised on the Lower East Side of New York City. The youngest of three sons, he was obligated to leave school at the age of sixteen in order to help support his family. He began his professional life as an apprentice in the display department of a major design center and eventually worked his way up to become a successful and well respected interior designer in his own right. Subsequently, he opened his own interior design center in Westchester County, New York, providing his creative services for many high profile clients. Maurice retired from his successful business in 1996 and relocated to Florida where he utilized every free moment to fulfill his dream of twenty-five years to compose this novel, which took four years to complete. He and his wife Ronnie have been married for more than four decades, and have two sons and three grandchildren.
