About the Book

This is a story of the survival of two young persons amidst the unspeakable horrors and atrocities of World War II. The main characters Stan and Halina exposed to human greed and cruelty are able to escape death many times using their own wit and with the help of others. Their love for each other, humor and upbeat attitude keep them alive trough all the exciting adventures. The book is based upon authentic facts and historical background. Most of the events and people are real. Being a wartime saga about two Polish families: one Christian and one Jewish helping each other at the time of utmost terror and prosecution, this book contains descriptions of: the1939 German and Soviet attack on Poland, the Soviet occupation of eastern Poland, the massive deportation of Polish population to Siberia, the execution of Polish officers in Katyn in 1940, the 1941 Soviet-German war, SS atrocities on occupied territories, the massive murder of the Jewish population, liquidation of ghettos, counter-actions of Russian partisans and underground Polish Home Army (AK), the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in 1943, the battle of Polish Corp at Monte Cassino in 1944, the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, the transport of survivors to the concentration camp in Auschwitz and the Soviet “liberation” in 1945. There are several maps in this book depicting political boundaries during the war, the battlefield of Monte Cassino, the areas fought by insurgents during the Warsaw Uprising and the escape travel routes of Halina and Stan. Some of the characters retained their real names to honor the sacrifices of their lives to save the life of others – the people with NOBLE HEARTS.
