Pain is poetry I try to demonstrate the power of words to inspire a generation that’s caught in a web of “Oppression” that comes in the form of ignorance, poverty, irresponsibility and violence.

About the Author

Leon El-Alamin is a native of Flint, Michigan. While in the Michigan Department of Correction from 2003 to 2010, he discovered his love for poetry and wrote the poetry collection Pain is Poetry. Leon made a major decision that once he was released from prison, he would change his life as well as the lives of others. And he did. Today, he is the co-founder of 3Rs, an organization that aims to refine, reform, and rebuild the social identity of our urban reality. He and his business associates dedicate their time and lives to make a difference for the lives of the young people in Flint, helping felons in and out of prison, getting their lives on the right track, and helping elderly people. The group recently received the Neighborhood Leader Award.
