If " all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" as depicted in the bible, then why are we not all patients? A long time ago Madam Maria Estrella spent her money, time and love to rear her children to become hardworking adults. Today she lying on an intensive care unit bed with a myriad of intravenous lines for medications to maintain her blood pressure and keep her heart beating, a dozen other chemicals for various diagnoses, hemodialysis and daily blood draws for laboratory tests. She is not responsive in any form and therefore unable to complain about the fat tube lodged into her throat for ventilation, the meandering tube inserted into her stomach through her nostril for feeding nor the tube in her bladder to drain her urine. Is Madam Estrella, who may be unconscious, the patient? Or the children who failed to take care of her at home and now insist that everything be done to keep her alive, Or the medical team that notes the poor prognosis everyday in the chart Or the health insurance company that has been fighting the doctors every step of the way?

About the Book
The adoption of riches as the sole objective of life has made the wealthy the trailblazers in our civilization. At their recommendation, we have embraced a benighted education and subsequently created artificial parameters dividing us into the ill and the not ill. What if we are wrong? Using different case scenarios, in the form of short stories, the author suggests that medical treatment should not be limited to the physically and mentally ill among us. The human illness affects all of us. In his opinion we need a superior cure for mankind. The question is whether we have the courage to embark on the path to that cure.
About the Author
Igwe Ukoha is a Nigerian born physician who lives and practices in the United States of American. He is a member of the generation that lived through a brutal civil war in Nigeria and witnessed man's inhumanity to fellow man at a scale that makes one wonder what it really means to be human.
