About the Book

Drama for the Soul is a compilation of plays by playwright Lisa Johnson and is the author’s first published work. As the director of her church’s drama ministry, her talents are greatly utilized. This collection consists of plays and vignettes on the subjects of the resurrection, Christmas, and African-American pioneers. Some of the sketches also serve as teaching tools or infomercials for different areas of ministry. The collection is well-suited for churches desiring to include drama in their services, school productions, or just as a great read. Mrs. Johnson writes about real-life situations that everyone can relate to, whether it is traumatic, humorous, or simply a life lesson. In her play, A Resurrected Life, a young woman experiences devastating trauma that causes her to withdraw from society and shut down. But her Aunt Callie, a feisty, devout Christian and fervent prayer warrior, refuses to let her niece go out like that. The events that take place will draw you in and send you on an emotional roller coaster! Several of the plays make use of videos as a part of the storytelling but can also be adapted for the stage. Drama for the Soul is truly that, as it inspires and gives hope to all who read it!

About the Author

Lisa Johnson is a Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, playwright, educator, director, actress, and now author. The fourth of six siblings born to parents Robert and Eugenia Thomas, Lisa has a love for motivating people to be the best they can be and has chosen various venues to help others see themselves in unique ways. She is often the mediator or voice of reason in times of conflict, whether it is in the church, community, school, or her own family. Mrs. Johnson received her bachelor’s degree in speech and theatre from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and earned a master’s degree in education from Union University. Active in her community, her faith and talent collide as she is the director of the drama ministry at Breath of Life Christian Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Johnson also serves as secretary for the Memphis chapter of the nonprofit organization the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. A previous recipient of an Esther Award given by the National Association of Women in Ministry, she was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2014. The author lives her life to the fullest. Whether it’s singing in the church choir, date night with her husband, kicking it with her girls, or playing dolls with her granddaughter, her credo for life is, “As long as I have joy and peace, I’m good!”
