My writings are the result of my observations of life. This poem is about my grandson when he found his “funny” stone that was really a small piece of ‘fool’s gold’. It was his moment of ‘serendipity’ as he desperately wanted it to be a piece of gold. One small boy made a ‘chance’ discovery that gave me an opportunity to write his poem. It is called: “Serendipity” A young boy wanders along an ancient creek bed, turning over rocks and stones quite oblivious to the sun’s heat burning down on his uncovered head. He finds a small pond formed by water trickling fresh from the rocks. His boyish face is one of intense concern as, removing his shoes and socks, he carefully steps into the water. His feet find stability in that sparkling stream, and, while not wanting to disturb the shiny fingerlings he can see, he is disappointed when they scatter away from the broken beam of sunlight he has made. The water is cool and he laughs as he watches the frantic play of the little fish as they dash away from his reaching hands. His fingers find a rough stone, an interesting stone, so he thinks, and he gently pulls it out from the place it has hidden for many years. “What is it, Dad?” his voice trembles with boyish excitement. “Is it gold?”

Serendipity: Seeing Through Words is a collection of interesting observations not sought but found by chance that give proof to one’s theories. So often, beautiful happenings are not recorded because we seem to have lost our ability to really see. We have become obsessed with new gadgets and technology, become a people of want rather than need, and often become blind to the wonders of natural beauty. So much of our culture and our traditions are changing or being forced to change. New ideas and new standards for living are fast becoming accepted, and the simplicity of life is quickly disappearing. The book gives permission for the reader to peel back their worldly expectations and enjoy the simple reality of the unexpected.
About the Author
Words have power! “SERENDIPITY” lets you to explore her unique world. She willingly exposes the depths of her soul, shows her raw emotions, and gives you permission to share the journey through the power of her words. Words can heal and tears can wash away the pain. Although this is her first book, she has been writing for most of her life using words as her therapy. Journeying is a safe place to express how you feel, a place to record how you ‘see’ the world. She studied art between 1987and 1991 and has been involved in many competitions and exhibitions during the following years but now she uses her pastel paintings and photographs to give a personal touch to her book.
