About the Book

This book is an invitation for the reader to embark on a journey designed to confront us with our cyber concepts and the impact that such personal concepts have into our personal, family, and enterprise environment. The cyber reality (CYRE) transcends the personal reality of cyber users, because cyber is never completely personal, but always collective. Cyber is never completely concealed, but most of the time exposed and transparent. How do we perceive the intricate and sometimes esoteric nature of the realm of binary code that constitutes the DNA-like building block of what exists and works in our cyber systems and networks? There are millions of people who think the cyber code exist solely for our convenience and entertainment, and thus, we perceive the cyber reality at an almost inconsequential level. There are two views of cyber reality usually residing on diametrically opposite realms. The two groups holding these two different views rarely intersect their corresponding views of CYRE, even when these two groups may co-exist in their daily personal and professional lives. Thus, it is possible to visualize these two CYRE as two parallel cyber universes. Consequently, these two disparate views of CYRE create a dichotomy in our real lives, where we see and conceptualize CYRE in two virtually antithetical realities. This author hopes this book is both an awakening and an enlightening experience, leading the reader to realize that CYRE is both a wonderful and ominous reality at the same time, coexisting in superposition. Rejoice at the wondrous opportunities offered to you by CYRE, but be cautious when confronting the dangerous aspects of CYRE as well. The allure to over expose yourself before the global community is powerful, and even rewarding, when given the opportunity to tell the world who you are. Yet at the same time you increase your visibility, the bigger target you become to a throng of cyber predators.

Lou Giannelli is a cyber threat subject-matter expert and CISSP with over nineteen years of combined experience in penetration testing, intrusion detection, cyber defense, and cyber threat analysis. He is also a well-known lecturer on national and international conferences and the author of numerous articles and white papers covering a vast array of cyber matters.
