It all began when we got that letter….
Electricity was in the air when we all first arrived, tension surging through all of us as we began to get to start this new journey. For some of us it was because of family legacy, others because they had nothing better to do, and then people like me who were here for answers. I had awaited this day for so long, as I received my uniform and room belongings, I began to for once feel nervous. My name is Nikki Weston and I’m starting my new life as an officer at Unit 26. This Unit is special, only taking in people who have special talents that show promise for use in a military setting. These officers were the best of the best and are respected by all, including myself. I first learned about them when I was ten, there was an attack on the town I lived in by terrorists. When they were threating all of us who were scared to death. When a man no older than 18 stood in front of him with no fear of the man at all he easily disarmed and took down the man and saved all our lives before he turned around I saw his name tape “Ace” was all it said, as he turned he nodded and spoke into his earpiece “Unit 26, Ace speaking civilians secured no causalities few injured.” He looked toward us, to me it looked like the hero anyone would want to save them. He nodded and left the scene as more men walked into the building and helped secure it. Unit 26, the name was stuck along in my head as well as the name “Ace”.
At the time there were nine other recruits in there besides myself, a brother sister pair, two crazy pumped up guys, a quiet shy boy who looked no older then 16, a girl who kept glaring at us while fixing her hair, the guy who was constantly flirting giving off that east going attitude, lastly three more guys who were from around the same area I was from. “Hey there sweetheart don’t you look like a super go getter?” the easy going boy, but before I could even retort. “Is there something you need recruit” Suddenly a voice rang out against the noise of the waiting room. I turned around there was a man there he looks to be in his late twenties his name tape read Jacks. “Listen up recruits I will be reading the names of the five new officers who passed the test.” That test he was talking about was the hardest I have ever seen in not only included mental problems but also physical endurance and the ability to not crack under pressure. “The names are Barton, Francis, Smith, Bates and Weston,” Immediately I stopped when I heard my name. I saw the four guys called stand up and approach Jacks. It was the brother out of the pair who got called Barton, he was slim but well built. Next was Francis he was the young shy looking boy who had been loitering in the corner until now, he looked like the type of person who doesn’t interact well with others. The next guy is Smith, the one who had just earlier been loose and being goofy suddenly turned serious and smart looking as he brushed but his hair quickly. Bates was actually a guy that I knew personally and was a friend of the family. I was the last one up I noticed Jacks was handing name tapes out as he addressed us. “these are your new names the one you have used until now are no longer valid in this program so adjust quickly, as for the rest of quickly leave the premises at once you are longer needed.” As I turned around, I watched the others leave the sister looked ready to cry while the other girl glared at me as if this was my fault and the two pumped up guys look deflated now. The room became dead quiet again. I looked up just in time to see Marks towering over me “This is your new name, you better prove that you earned it the nametape read in bold black letters ‘Ace’”.
