I was betrayed by my cheeks growing warm from happiness and took a cup. He took the other and sipped with me, even though I’m sure the hot chocolate tasted like sand in his mouth. We spent hours staring into the fire and doing absolutely nothing. Neither one of us spoke, and we weren’t interrupted by visitors, workers, or family. At some point I grew so comfortable I fell asleep with my head on his lap and woke up to him stroking my hair gently, careful not to chill me more with his icy hands. I wiped the drool off my cheek and naturally smiled at the snicker he gave in response. I couldn’t help wondering who the man looking down at me was, as he was so unlike the husband I had grown to know. I let out a small prayer to mother nature that he would stay like this and I could say honestly I loved my husband.

About the Book
Saburo is a hard-working child of a respected family in the elvish community. Once Saburo finally explains to the family, however, that she is in fact female, she is banished from the only home she knew and must find a new life in the nearest human city. She takes a job as a model, hoping to change the world’s view of transvisibility and soon finds herself far beyond simple popularity. But at what cost? How will she handle a life married to an abusive man drunk with power? Will she ever find happiness? Will she ever be able to be herself?
About the Author
Kelsey Bartlett has been writing since she was a child. She got her bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 2016. Bartlett lives with her family in western Kentucky, where she works as a chemistry instructor and pharmacy technician. She spends her free time working on her writing and hopes to write more stories based in Freud for future additions, based on different characters and their own stories. She hopes to provide a quick, easy escape for her readers with her stories.
