Fireflies appear, drifting lazily around the forest. Crickets sing a lovely melody. Vince stands up. Suddenly he sees a monster with huge teeth blocking the way! Chiral grabs two fireflies with her feet and flies over to the beast. Vince looks away; he didn’t want to see the thing eat his friend. “Vince look,” she chirps. He pulls his gaze away from the ground and looks at the beast, but it wasn’t a beast, it was the roots of the fallen tree. “It’s the same thing in the dark as it is in the light,” Vince smiles. “Not so ferocious now are you?” he says pretending to fight the roots. Chiral laughs.

About the Author
At the time of publication, the author is a seventeen-year-old girl who goes by the name of Alex. She is currently in eleventh grade and loves both nature and stories. She owns many books and hopes to make many more of her own someday. “I would like to thank my family teachers and friends for helping me write this story. You know who you are.
