About the Author

Kathy Wheeler Gueye was born and raised in Queens, New York. During her childhood years, she was greatly influenced by her love of reading, poetry, art, music, and dance. She has lived for many years, and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. In her professional journey as a social worker, MSW, she found creative ways to celebrate imaginary play through the writing of When I Grow Up, her first published children’s book that celebrates the infinite possibilities of the imagination while learning. In 2015, she received an acknowledgement letter from President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, who are featured characters in the story. Highly motivated to continue her education of children, she has written her second book, One Shoe One Sock. This book focuses on children learning words that rhyme, prose, and counting. It is a beautifully illustrated work that was inspired by a true life story of her four grandchildren, who are featured characters in the book! Illustrator Jason Alloway is a contemporary artist who was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. During his childhood years, he found his passion and talent for fine art, especially painting. This has inspired him to pursue his goals as a professional artist throughout his school years. He continued his education and graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He has a passion for contemporary painting and continues his commitment to teaching art to adults and children in New York City. One Shoe One Sock is his first illustration of a children’s book!
