Fighting For Me When do we start making decisions for our lives? Is it after high school, when we have so many choices? Or after we start college when the whole world seems to be at our disposal. After we think we can conquer the world, we hear voices. Telling us that we can only be wives. Why study so hard, besides, As young women, we heard stories Of career women who became too independent. That no man wanted them because they did not need anyone else. Nothing good can come from having a career. Others were told that they had to depend on themselves. They needed to work hard to buy cars and houses. Don’t look for anyone to take care of them. They needed to take the helm Of their lives and make decisions. To stay focused and filled with determination. And fill their spirits with ambition. I made a decision to fight for what I want. I prayed and asked God to guide my footsteps. I wanted it All – career, husband and children. Having a career was not a sign of weakness. For me, it was a sign of strength and endurance. It taught me flexibility and adaptability. Learning how to balance well And prioritize the significant parts To focus and dwell On the important things became a true art. No one will take care of me the way I can. Multi-tasking became my forte. Later in life, I learned that God takes care of me better. And loves me more like none other. Learn to fight for your life. Use all your power, To figure you out. Before you welcome another life into this world. Learn your likes and dislikes. Learn the desires of your heart. Creating a future for you is the first start. Complete college and find work. Earn money and save. Travel and learn how to behave In different cultural environments. And to your astonishment, You’ll wake up one day and say I HAVE ARRIVED!
