About the Book

I wrote this book because I’d finally gotten to a place in my life where I knew that I had to face all of the demons in my life that were hindering me from getting to the place where my destiny was waiting for me. God had allowed me to go through and overcome many things in my life that would have taken me out except for the prayers of those who loved me in spite of my mistakes. I wanted this to be a book of hope for others who find themselves entangled in circumstances that they can’t seem to break free of and to let them know that all things become possible when we take the first step and allow God the freedom to work in our lives. We all have to come to a point where we look in the mirror and say to ourselves that today is the day when I start the process of working on myself and today is the day where all the layers come down and I become all that God has designed me to be.

About the Author

Gladys Newkirk Covington is a minister at The Bethel Church in Miami, Florida. She is the devoted mother of four, Althea, Elliott, Steven C., and Steven N., grandmother of eight, forever missing her first grandchild Walter T. King, Jr. who was taken from this earth too soon, and the great grandmother of nine. She has lived a life of service to others, spending 10 years employed at The American Red Cross, and then 24 years at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the county hospital in Dade County where she worked until she retired. She loves to write, and has written many poems that are based on the scenarios that happen around her on a daily basis, and for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, memorials and appreciations that people want remembered in special words. She has had a reoccurring role in the Black History production showcased at the Bethel Church and taken to other churches, “Echoes of Freedom” that is in its 17th year run as Momma Clemmie, the no nonsense grandmother who imparts wisdom to her grandchildren. She has a love of life that will not allow her to slow down even in retirement and her new motto is, I’ve worked all of my life, now it is time to live. Her zeal for life is infectious and it affects everyone who comes in contact with her. She loves to dance and has promised to do so until she takes her last breath.
