Sexual abuse in the home occurs in many communities around the world. But it is a taboo subject and is often overlooked as complex and vexing. Its effects on victims are profound, frightening, and searing. Janatta was a victim of sexual assault in her home. Her ordeal began at age twelve and continued for many years. The combination of her father being the principal wage earner and a submissive and dependent mother shut out revealing her plight to her mother. The prevailing sexist bias against women in the society added to her woes. Janatta was forced to seek out her own solutions, and she decided on suicide as the best means to end her unbearable life. She overcame her severe adversity through friendship, perseverance, and love. Janatta’s Cry is about the hidden scourge of sexual abuse in the home in many parts of the world.
