A Penny Saved is a powerful book that takes a reader to and through the most cherished and beloved moments of a little black girl’s life named Penny. Penny grew up in the Jim Crow South in the mid 1950s and experienced many obstacles and challenges in her life. She also must redirect her family situations to positive outlets by relying on divine interventions to sustain her as she faced many struggles. As Penny became older and blossomed into a woman, she felt that she was finally being appreciated and being saved, but unexpected events unfold in her adult life to reveal that she was still on a roller-coaster ride of life only to be thrown into a new face of reality. Penny fought relentlessly to maintain her sanity through the hurt and pain that she encountered. Nevertheless, she was given the opportunity to prove her worth and could finally receive the blessing of being saved.
