Flashbacks of a Government Man

Only two individuals knew about the flashbacks which Markus Britt began to have about his past service with the US military and FBI since he retired. They were his wife, Rachel and himself. Markus had begun to realize that it was often little things which caused him to have these fresh thoughts or flashbacks about his life experiences. Sometimes it happened when he smelled a grass fire burning or possibly while watching a TV program. Other times it was the taste of fresh stew his wife had cooked, or times when he was reading an article in the news. Then there were times when it was the sound of a four-engine aircraft flying overhead. Occasionally it was a place or perhaps just the name of a place. Markus only knew that when such incidents occurred, they caused him to recall certain events which he had experienced in the past. There were times he would then share his thoughts with Rachel but sometimes he wouldn’t. After all, he also recalled that the Bible gave instructions that there was ‘a time for everything,’ even ‘a time to be silent and a time to speak.’ For example, should he tell her about the Ranger soldier who warned him about the depth of water in the swamp where the soldier drowned in the process of uttering the warning? Should he tell her about the bank robber who confessed to being involved in the brutal murder of four people while robbing a coin shop? Or should he tell her of the case involving the stolen money orders and a contract murder? There were many episodes which Markus himself wanted to forget after he had the flashback. Well, this is the story of some of the circumstances that occurred in Markus’s life which might be of interest to the reader simply to get a glimpse into one Government Man’s experience as an officer in the US Army during the Cold War, and thereafter as a Special Agent with the FBI prior to 9/11.
