BREATH I pray today for those who’re ill. Who fight for life and some who will, Before day ends, go from this life Leaving behind a child and wife. I pray for those who try so hard To keep them safe although they’re scarred. Scant thought of self, true love to know Empty themselves, sacrifice to show. I think of those who’s every breath Feels like the last, think of the breadth Of fear consuming every hour Machines become their only power. I hope and pray that those in power Remember all of those who cower. Doubting all decisions made In fear lash out, scared and afraid. I pray as one of Your own folk Please help me lighten other’s yoke. Community your light to bring To hearts too worn down to sing. Give us each day our daily breath Oh Lord deliver us from our death And help us not to just believe But help us all help others live. ODE TO MY WELLIES Welly good welly boots You saved my life this winter Without your warm dry comfort My sick-bed I would enter You may be simple rubber But three socks make you cozy Through winter’s storms and gales Protect my frozen tozies. Through mud and flood and puddles, Snug round my feet you stay Long walks we daily wander My dog and me we play. I hope the summer comes And you can have a rest But if there’s rain you’ll save me My wellies, you’re the best

About the Book
Many of these poems acknowledge the impact of my Christian faith on my life and my thinking but they also have attempted to show it as a humble relationship rather than a religious rulebook. But life is sometimes messy and as I listened to other people’s stories, I felt driven to capture their hopes, despairs, joys and frustrations in the distilled style that is poetry. I would like to think that there is a challenge in each poem to see things from other people’s perspective and help us all to help each other through the journey.
