About the Author

Valerie Ruelos Magalong has spent over fifteen years working at a biotech company that is dedicated to pursuing groundbreaking science to discover and develop medicines for people with serious and life-threatening diseases—never imagining that one day one of those lives saved would be her own. She is now five years in remission from stage 3A colon cancer and is grateful for the opportunity to share her perspective in helping other patients through their journey. With a renewed sense of purpose and a second chance, she values every moment by living her best life with her son, fiancé, family, and friends. Her wanderlust, a passion her beloved parents opened her eyes to, keeps her exploring new horizons with the hope of one day traveling to the remaining continent she has yet to visit—Antarctica. She was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she currently resides.
