Unfortunately, mental health as a whole was never a discussed topic growing up. It was a taboo idea and reserved only for dramatic movies. These movies painted a picture of straight jackets and institutions. It was unheard of for a young woman to start showing signs of this type of illness. It seemed out of nowhere. My family was lost and they sat me down. They simply conveyed that either I go to a doctor or they were done helping me. When I eventually went to the appointment and was told that I had severe depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, I cried buckets of tears. This was not because I was sad about being sick but because I assumed that I was therefore about to be restrained and placed in a white van. This white van would take me to a stark white building, I would be forced into horrifying treatments and my life would be over.

About the Author
After being diagnosed with mental illness Chelsea worked hard to overcome her newly found stereotypes. While working to control her symptoms and fears she found the love of writing. Through this she was able to find a release while telling her story and being authentically transparent. Writing RED enabled her to see the potential that life could have regardless of her challenges. Chelsea's goal is to show society the inner mind of her mental illness and prove that she is unstoppable.
