About the Book
I wrote my first poem in two thousand two When I turned sixty, what else could I do To relieve the pain of a Trade Center view Which, while at work, made me then my life rue? It started one night on the train going home When I took paper and wrote my first poem, Trying to block mem’ries that made me moan, Of buildings that fell, crushing flesh and bone. While the train rumbled from station to station, The poems poured forth as if taking dictation; But the poems I wrote were not tragic or sad, Maybe because I needed to be glad. They were mostly about my mom and my dad, Stories so funny I felt like a cad Telling how mom would relieve her frustration On dad like in a sitcom situation. With time other poems came forth with galore On subjects that blossomed into so much more That they filled a first book, “Some Poems By Joe,” With More In This Tome That I Hope You’ll Love so.
