About the Book
In memory of our wonderful parents, Pórunn Ólafsdóttir and Sigurdur Rosenkranz Haflidason, both of Iceland, who sacrificed their own dreams and country so their children could develop a bliss and future of their own in a more advantageous land. The story was written and translated from Icelandic to English by Gudmundina Haflidason. Miss Haflidason is 100 percent Icelandic. The author is a daughter of a late sea captain, Sigurdur Rosenkranz Haflidason of Reykjavik, Iceland. The author comes from a long line of Icelandic writers in her family and began composing poetry in her native language when still a child. Iceland, which is often nicknamed “The Land of Fire and Ice,” is a paradise for nature lovers due to its hot springs, glaciers, lava fields, and waterfalls. With a largely unspoiled and surreal landscape, it’s no wonder it has inspired travelers, artists, and photographers from around the world. After reading this book, unlike any other book written about Iceland and the Icelandic people, you will know the real heart and soul of Iceland’s land and culture through the life experiences of one Icelandic family’s real-life tragedies and triumphs.
